About three or four years I ago I started becoming more conscious with the things I put on and in my body. It first started with my dish soap, then my laundry soap. A couple years later I became really invested in what I put in my body- food and medicine wise. Currently, my newest thing, is being really conscious about where I spend my money and trying to spend it with companies that practice fair trade, ethically made products, made in the USA, etc.
That is kind of the background of my journey. I have really enjoyed learning how to cook and make things on my own. It also helps me stick to my budget! This last batch of soap cost me $11 to make and it will probably last me six to eight months!
Laundry Soap was the first home cleaning item I embarked on when making my own. It really is SO simple! And, like I said, SO cheap!
I got a glass jar to store it in but you could really just throw it in a plastic Tupperware bin. Also, when I put it in the washing machine, I also drop a few drops of my “Purify” essential oils in there as well.
This stuff works. My clothes come out clean. It takes care of most food/marker/random stains I get on my clothes throughout the day.
This year I even gave it out as little Christmas gifts to coworkers and neighbors. I don’t know if people were just being nice or honest, but a lot of people were really excited about it.
I have seen some recipes that call for Borax and I did use that at the beginning. But after reading some stuff on the harmful effects of Borax (that I really just saw on blog posts, no actual research when into my decision), I decided just to leave it out altogether. It hasn’t hurt, so I just keep leaving it out.
Do you have any DIY home products you make and love? I’d love to hear them!
Until next time,
