We got Married!!!

Yup! We sure did! It only took 3 years of dating, a few months of being broken up, lots of fights, and even more laughs to finally make it happen.

Our wedding weekend was truly amazing. Initially when we began planning our wedding, we were wanting to do a destination wedding. After some research we saw how expensive it would be for our guests to attend so we opted for a traditional wedding back home.

From the time I can remember, I never wanted a traditional wedding. And there were many times during the wedding planning process where I felt resentful that we were taking the “typical” wedding route. So much more to do, plan for, stress over, spend money on, etc.

But looking back…I wouldn’t have it any other way. The wedding day was literally perfect. I didn’t think that was possible..

I started off the wedding weekend with a bridal luncheon. I chose not to have any wedding showers cause they just aren’t really my thing. However, I did want a celebration with all of the important women in my life so my sister hosted a luncheon for me at my favorite restaurant in New Braunfels, Huisache.

We mingled. We ate. We played some of those cheesy “get to know the bride and groom” games. It was perfect!

After lunch my mom, sisters, bridal party, Aunt, Dad, Cody and one of his groomsmen met out at the venue to begin setting up. We were SO lucky that no one else was using the venue on Friday so we were able to completely decorate and set up the venue.

I knew I wanted to use books as the main centerpiece because we are both avid readers. Cody is a huge history buff so when I found a set of vintage history books at a resale shop for $15, I knew they were the perfect starting point! We threw in some children's books to represent my love of teaching.

When we started the planning process back in February we created a list of what was most important to us in our wedding. Number one on the list was small and intimate. Number two was that it was *unique* and personal to us.

*Cody made fun of me every time I said that word. Because we couldn’t do anything for the wedding if it wasn’t “unique” in my mind.

We achieved the unique and personal aspect by creating centerpieces and decorations that represented us.

We threw in some children’s books to represent my love of teaching. The wine bottles at each of the tables were especially picked because we love that wine. Same for the beer bottles.

We stole the song dismissal idea from our friends Logan and Olivia’s wedding earlier this year. Each table had a song assigned to them and when the song played that table was dismissed to get their food. We got lots of compliments on that, so thanks to Logan and Olivia for that one!

After setting up we all went back to the hotel and got cleaned up for the rehearsal. Which was really a futile effort because we all sweated the entire evening at this little dive bar where we held our rehearsal dinner across the street from our wedding venue. It was perfect. The outside was beautiful. The inside REEKED of cigarette smoke but it was perfect!

We rehearsed for a little while then walked across the street for our rehearsal dinner.

It was a sweet time of celebrating with our closest friends and family. It was also a great distraction from the anxiousness of the next day.

The biggest source of anxiety for me wasn’t that everything would be perfect (surprise, I know!) or that Cody was the wrong one or that he wouldn’t show up. I was most anxious about walking down the aisle and every single persons eyes on me. I hate being the center of attention and I was dreading this part. Anytime during the planning process when I would be planning the ceremony or listening to a podcast where they talked about walking down the aisle, I would start sweating. Cody’s step-grandmother brought a xanax for me Saturday morning. She really is just the sweetest. 🙂

Luckily I slept well Friday night….Perhaps due to the super comfy beds at the Hampton Inn in Boerne or maybe it was the couple glasses of wine with my girlfriends at the hotel. Idk…

Saturday morning was a fun morning. I sat down in the lobby eating breakfast and talking with all of our guests who were filtering in and out throughout the morning.

Then it was time to head to the venue!

We got married at the sweetest little venue outside of Boerne. Sisterdale Dancehall and Opera House. The venue was everything we wanted. UNIQUE. Next to the {dry} river. Had character. CHEAP! And probably most importantly, none of our friends had gotten married there yet. (I feel like every venue we looked at, one of our friends had previously wed there.)

The bridal suite was in this cute little house off to the side.

Saturday we were able to put the finishing touches on the venue and set up the ceremony site. It turned out so precious and I could not have asked for a more picture perfect spot.

Our flowers were delivered and I was SO happy with them. I’m not really sure what inspired the lavender but I loved it. And it smelt so amazing.

The cake was delivered and it was TO DIE FOR!

Instead of a grooms cake we did cookies decorated in Cody’s favorite sports teams. We hear they were delicious….

We also did a dessert bar. Again… I have no idea what any of them tasted like because they were eaten before Cody and I even had a chance to make it over there.

My sweet friend Nicole, of Nicole Schultz Makeup, did our hair and makeup for the big day. She made me feel (and look!) beautiful and I am oh so thankful for her friendship as well as her amazing talent!

The whole morning was so peaceful and calm. My Aunt brought us lunch. We sat around and chatted. We decorated. I wrote my letter to Cody at the last minute. The girls apparently worked on their speech after I finished my letter to Cody. We were full of procrastination that day. I just kept walking around the venue saying “This is perfect! This is literally perfect!” because it was.

Once I had to sit down in that makeup chair, I began to get anxious. I couldn’t do anything and that is a struggle for me. My bridesmaids were amazing and set up the whole ceremony site as well as did everything I asked of them once I was dressed and could no longer leave the suite.

Cody and I did do an around the corner moment. When we were planning and I was so anxious about the walking down the aisle part, I told him I wanted to at least hold his hand and talk to him before the ceremony. It was a special moment, with like 5 people watching over us as the snapped photos and videos but hey..what’s a special moment if it isn’t photographed. ammiright? At last minute I had JJ come and pray over us.

Then…all the sudden cars started showing up. People were walking by the window I was looking out. It was really happening! That part literally happened within minutes. One minute I was staring out the window looking at people arrive and the next minute Jordan, our day of coordinator, was lining us up to walk down the aisle.

Please check out the cuteness in this picture! One of our ring bearers was not happy about walking down the aisle.

But luckily Ava saved the day and escorted him down. Plus his big brother was all in on walking down the aisle. We sent him down with the bible my grandparents were given on their August Wedding over 55 years ago!

Seriously! How precious is he?

Then, the music was cued and my dad and I were walking down the aisle. I love this shot of him. I imagine he is looking at my mom right now thinking “We did this!” and I’m looking at Cody saying “We’re doing this!”

Hill Country Wedding at Sisterdale Dancehall in Texas Hill Country

I really can only accredit it to the ladies who were praying over me that day and the Good Lord…

(SHOUT OUT TO MY SPIRITUAL MOMMAS!)

but I did not have one ounce of nervousness in me when I walked down the aisle. I was so excited! I couldn’t wait to see Cody and FINALLY marry him!

Hill Country Wedding at Sisterdale Dancehall in Texas Hill Country

The ceremony was everything we wanted. We needed it to be short because it was outdoor in the middle of August and…who does that?!? Apparently we do! It was super important to us that God be at the center of our ceremony. We were so honored to have our friend JJ Jones officiate our wedding. He crafted a beautiful ceremony and honored all that was important to us.

It was so special to have my youth pastor marry us. But it is even more special to me that Anna and JJ have become friends. Once they were my leaders and mentors. People who told me what I could (and sometimes couldn’t) do. Now they are our friends. People we can talk to, confide in, and pray with. We are so lucky!

This is my favorite photo of us as soon as the ceremony was over. I love the looks we are giving each other. “WE DID IT!”

We took a couple of photos with our families, the wedding party, and then just us.

We have a good looking group here!

And of course, there are tons more. But these are a few of my favorite romantic shots. Also…these were super awkward to take.

Then it was time to PARTY! We started off with our first dance to “Carried Away” by George Strait.

Hill Country Wedding at Sisterdale Dancehall in Texas Hill Country

My dad and I did our dance. Which was a really special moment. My dad is the smartest, bravest, and most fearless man I know. But…he is afraid of the spotlight. So he most definitely was not looking forward to our dance (he’s never danced a day in his life). The fact that he danced with me was really one of the most special parts of our wedding day. We did terrible, I’m sure of it. I mouthed the steps to him the entire time. And I’m sure everyone was watching us cringing (I got all of my dancing skills from my dad….) But I didn’t care. My daddy was out there doing this for me and it meant everything.

Cody and his mom danced to “Should’a Been a Cowboy” by Toby Keith. The only song his mom could think of when we asked what song she wanted was this one. That was Cody’s jam when he was a little boy and apparently he liked to jam to that song in his undies and red cowboy boots, so it was fitting that they danced to this song.

My dad gave the sweetest speech (again, a really special moment because of his dislike of being in the spotlight) and had the Buchtien family in tears. Who knew Ron had such a sweet side?

After dinner, it was time to socialize! Then it was on the dance floor. We had such a blast dancing with our friends and family.

My mom and Cody even did a little number on the dance floor.

Of course, we cut our cake and no idea what we were doing!

Hill Country Wedding at Sisterdale Dancehall in Texas Hill Country

We ended the evening with a last dance. This was a special moment for us as all of our guests exited and we had a final few moments in the venue to soak up everything all by ourselves.

Hill Country Wedding at Sisterdale Dancehall in Texas Hill Country

We continued the theme of lavender with our exit. Which was really pretty and smelled really good. But so messy! There was lavender EVERYWHERE!

We hopped on Cody’s motorcycle and road off to our Happily Ever After!

Hill Country Wedding at Sisterdale Dancehall in Texas Hill Country

We spent the following week honeymooning in Tulum, Mexico basking in the sun and enjoying some rest and relaxation before the busyness of life picked back up.

Our wedding day was the perfect day and everything we envisioned. Thank you to everyone who was a part of our day and helped to make it the most special day ever!
